Committee on Fisheries (COFI), FAO
The Committee on Fisheries (COFI), a subsidiary body of the FAO Council, was established by the FAO Conference in 1965. The Committee constitutes the only global inter-governmental forum where major international fisheries and aquaculture problems and issues are examined and recommendations addressed to governments, regional fishery bodies, NGOs, fishworkers, FAO and international community, periodically on a world-wide basis. COFI has also been used as a forum in which global agreements and non-binding instruments were negotiated.

Coral Triangle Initiative On Coral Reefs, Fisheries and Food Security
The Coral Triangle Initiative (CTI) is centered around high-level political commitments and proactive implementation by governments of the Coral Triangle area. It is supported by the private sector, international agencies and NGO partners. CTI aims ot provide a major contribution toward safeguarding the region’s marine and coastal biological resources for the sustainable growth and prosperity of current and future generations. OSPAR
OSPAR is the mechanism by which fifteen Governments of the western coasts and catchments of Europe, together with the European Community, cooperate to protect the marine environment of the North-East Atlantic. It started in 1972 with the Oslo Convention against dumping. It was broadened to cover land-based sources and the offshore industry by the Paris Convention of 1974. These two conventions were unified, up-dated and extended by the 1992 OSPAR Convention. The new annex on biodiversity and ecosystems was adopted in 1998 to cover non-polluting human activities that can adversely affect the sea.
The fifteen Governments are Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and United Kingdom.

OSPAR Commission for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the North-East Atlantic
The 1992 OSPAR Convention is the current instrument guiding international cooperation on the protection of the marine environment of the North-East Atlantic. It combined and up-dated the 1972 Oslo Convention on dumping waste at sea and the 1974 Paris Convention on land-based sources of marine pollution. Work under the convention is managed by the OSPAR Commission, made up of representatives of the governments of 15 contracting parties and the European Commission, representing the European Community.

Partnership for African Fisheries
The Partnership for African Fisheries is a programme of the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD), with substantial funding from the UK Department for International Development. It starts from the premise that Africa needs to change the way in which it fishes and will work to ensure that fisheries policy reform is based on sound and well thought through advice that will lead to meaningful actions and positive changes. It will do this by stimulating an open debate - a 'think-tank' process for knowledge exchange between African and international partners that will improve awareness both ways across the table.
