An increasing amount of cod from the Barents Sea has been delivered directly to EU harbours over the last few years. A significant proportion of this fish represents illegal over-fishing, and is resulting from cynical moves by Russian fish mafia and Western capital interest, corruption, exploitation of poor fish workers, indifferent fish companies that only seek cheap fish, and lack of coherent sanction and control measures from both Russian and the governments of EU Member States.
